How to use the Blue Star Widget

  1. Find an interesting photo from a community user's album
    E.g. http://my.opera.com/harryandanimals/albums/showpic.dml?album=237399&picture=3624923
  2. Copy the address, from Opera's address bar
    E.g. F8, Ctrl+C
  3. Start up the Blue Star widget
E.g. Alt+G, B (may differ on your Opera)
Note: For the widget to register keypresses, it must first have focus; click on it
  4. In the input box, paste the address and press ENTER
E.g. press TAB (or click on the input box), CTRL+V, ENTER
Note: On slow connections, the widget may ask you to retry in a few seconds; it means it hasn't downloaded the list of BSF members yet
  5. You should get a green message if the user's photo can be tagged with a Blue Star, or a red message if the user is a BSF member
  6. Copy the text in the texarea labeled "Image comment" ; you can now directly paste the recommended tag to be added for that photo
E.g. TAB, Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C or triple click inside the textarea and then Ctrl+C
Note: This text is always the same, as per the specification
  7. Copy the text in the texarea labeled "BSF Blog" ; it contains a template for the group blog post which you can now add as a new blog entry .
E.g. another TAB, Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C or triple click inside the textarea and then Ctrl+C
Note: On slow connections, it might take a while for this text to be generated, as the widget also fetches the picture's thumbnail

Final notes

  1. If you want to tag a community image that isn't in any album, just copy its address, and paste in the widget's input box, then press ENTER. The widget won't be able to generate a thumbnail, but you'll get the proper comment and blog texts.
E.g. http://files.myopera.com/chinajon/blog/HeartOfStarsSC.jpg was only uploaded to ChinaJon's account, so it isn't available in any album, but can still make a great spotlight as-is (with a small caveat )
E.g. http://files.myopera.com/harryandanimals/albums/237399/DSCF1078.jpg however is in an album, so to get the thumbnail you must provide the link posted in Step 1, and not this direct link to the photo.
  2. If you just want to know if a user is a BSF member, type the username in the input box , and press ENTER.
  3. If you get a message like "Unexpected URL. Turn widget for examples", you may have spaces in the address or you may have copied the image address from elsewhere (in this case, the link to the image was typed in by Sprogger and isn't kosher). Just copy-paste again from Opera's address bar.
  4. Inside the widget, for an empty input box, pressing ENTER will show you the nutshell instructions .
